About Pacific Lutheran University

Pacific Lutheran University or PLU, for short, is a private, co-ed university in Parkland, which is an unincorporated suburb of the city of Tacoma, which is a mid-sized urban port city, in Washington state, USA, serving as the county seat of Pierce County, with nearly 200 000 people, living within its limits (2009), making it the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area and the third largest in the state.

PLU was established in 1890 and was founded by Scandinavian, mostly Norwegian, immigrants, with the purpose to further Lutheran higher education in the Pacific Northwest.

The university has a diverse academic offering, which includes a vast number of educational programs, and well-respected programs in Pre-Medicine and Pre-Law preparation.

Athletics

PLU's athletic teams are known as the Lutes and they compete in NCAA Division III and in the Northwest Conference. Their distinctive colors are black and gold and their mascot is the Knight.

Notable Alumni

The list of noteworthy PLU alumni, also contains the names of: Sean Parnell - Governor of Alaska and lawyer, and Connor Trinneer - actor, most notable for playing Commander `Trip` Tucker in `Star Trek Enterprise`.
